This is a faience soup tureen produced in Gien around 1875. It is beautifully decorated with a dolphin motif on the lid handle and references to ocean waves on the side handles.

Produced by the traditional Gien faience works, this piece is an example of the beautiful transfer printing technique, highly innovative for its time, which can be seen at the faience museum of Gien.

On the reverse, the manufacturer’s mark can be seen, confirming the period of production. This is a piece with few flaws considering its age of almost 150 years; it has a chip on the base and some crazing on the inside.

This is a perfect piece for lovers of earthenware history or even admirers of the art de la table. Either way, it looks lovely for use on special occasions or even as a fruit bowl.

Dimensions: 25 cm high × 32 cm deep x 28 cm wide
Colour:  Blue and White
Material: Earthenware
Condition: Fair condition, showing interior crazing (“hairlines”) consistent with the age of the piece, as well as a small chip to the base.
